FatBooks

I've been obsessed with fatbooks for several years now. And tho' my participation in these gems sometimes wanes (they are really time-consuming!), I still LOVE doing them and I love looking back at all the ones I've done (waaaaaay too many to count- seriously!)

Here's another artsy flashback of some of my favorite 4x4 fatbook pages that I've done.

My favorite color combinations are Black and White or Black and White and Red, as you can see from the many pages I've done:

Creating Background Papers

When I'm in a creative funk, I like to play with paint to make background papers for use in future projects.

I start with whatever kind of paper I feel like using, from plain paper bags to watercolor paper to anything in-between.

I put drops of paint (acrylic and tempura paints both work well- lately I've been in love with metallic tempura paints).

Then I spread the paint around with either a credit card or a sturdy piece of watercolor paper. Wipe the paint around a few times but be careful not to let the colors get too muddied.

At this point you can add some glitter if you feel the need to, or you can just let it dry as is.

Voila! Lovely hand decorated paper!

Artsy Flashback

OK, so I've been a bit lame in the art department lately, for various reasons.

So in order to keep up appearances, I've decided to do yet another artsy flashback. LOL!

Here are some chunky book pages I made. The theme was, as you can guess, "Faces".

I have never been able to draw, so I was really working outside my comfort zone on this one. I was using Basquiat as inspiration (tho' I doubt you can tell that!)

I ended up really loving these! I may have to dive back in to experiment along these lines again.

These are pastels on black paper. (I love pastels but getting them to seal and not flake off is a nightmare- if anyone has any good tips on this, let me know!)

In another artsy flashback, I have posted a few pics of my very first RR journal ever! This was done several years ago by a group of us that attended Artfest! My book was a cd book and the theme was "Etiquette"!
